Złoto nazywane jest nierzadko inwestycją na czarną godzinę. Wcześniej kilkaset lat temu złoto spełniało funkcję waluty, jaka odporna była na przeróżne zawirowania . Inwestycje w złoto wypada, zatem traktować długoterminowo.

Dużo narciarzy, jako środek transportu nawet na zagraniczne wyjazdy, ciągle jeszcze preferuje auto. Zanim jednakże przysiądziemy za kierownicą warto zastanowić się nad alternatywną formą podróżowania: samolotem.

Wysokie ceny paliwa, stres połączony z koniecznością odczytywania mapy, ryzyko wynikające z oblodzenia drogi|autostrady|trasy} i niewygoda złączona z długim czasem przewozu sprawiają, że kupno biletu lotniczego – przede wszystkim przez internet – staje się ponętny. Pozytywów związanych z przelotem nie warto podawać. Jest jednakże coś, co frapuje każdego przygotowującego się do wylotu narciarza – problem: na jakich warunkach transportowany jest w samolocie nasz sprzęt?

Główna dewiza dotycząca przewozu nart, snowboardów i całości narciarskiego rynsztunku jest prosta: pytaj! Przed zarezerwowaniem biletu należałoby dowiedzieć się na jakich regułach odbywa się przewóz tego rodzaju bagażu, bowiem każda z linii lotniczych stosuje w tym obszarze własne szczególne taksy. Co więcej koszty transportu mogą być zależne również od samych tras, na jakich pragniemy podróżować. Należałoby więc przyjrzeć się najbardziej znanym w Kraju przewoźnikom, którzy wykonują loty w okolice kurortów narciarskich.

August 9, 2011, announcing the publication of the “Hawk Cartridges Manual” Fred Zeglin, gunsmith/author of“Wildcat Cartridges, Reloader’s Handbook of Wildcat Cartridge Design” and POMA member announced this week the first edition publication of the reloading manual for “Hawk Cartridges”.

Fred Zeglin stated, “When I started working with this line of wildcats in 1996 I never imagined it would lead to a book.  Collecting years of data and experiences into a manual has been a pleasure; I would hate to see all these works just sit in a file cabinet gathering dust.”

This hardback book contains 188 pages of stories, illustrations, anecdotes, instructions, and data. Each cartridge covered in the book includes a dimensioned drawing. Contributions from Wayne van Zwoll, Michael Petrov, Dick Williams and Mike Brady are included. Pressure tested data is included for the majority of the load data and all loads are real world tested in firearms. Z-Hat Custom is about to publish a new edition of the Hawk Reloading Manual.  This will be the first print edition, the previous versions were electronic.

Included in the new manual will be a couple of new articles and data for some newer additions to the Hawk Cartridge line-up.  348 Hawk was  reportedly added to the line to fulfill a request from a client.  The 9.3 Hawk is an improved version of the 9.3x62mm.   New to this manual is also an extensive powder profile for the 411 Hawk.  Hawk wildcats have hung on and been reasonably popular for many years.  This new manual can’t help but build more interest in these interesting wildcats.  They are based on the 30-06 case and sport substantially increased case capacity over the parent case.  Calibers range from 240 Hawk to the powerfull 411 with a stop at every caliber along the way.

Utilizing a smaller case Z-Hat introduced the 19 Hawk which has proven to be very accurate.  There is even some data on this cartridge in the new book.  They tell us to expect the book to be available around June of 2011, just around the corner.  Z-Hat will post it as soon as the publisher get the books out.

This last weekend Fred Zeglin met with Al D. shown at right inspecting his P.O. Ackley custom rifle.  Al was a distributor for EMDEKO Inc. back in 1971 when P.O. Ackley agreed to build 5000 rifles for EMDEKO.  Al and a few other of the principals involved in the inception of this project ordered some pre-production sample rifles from Ackley.

Al’s rifle is 30-06, it wears an Ackley Barrel and is marked as being made by P.O. Ackley.  The stock is a Bishop straight grain walnut.  The action is an Interarms Mark X.  The scope is a 3-9×40 P.O. Ackley imported scope.

There is a more research to be done on this rifle and two others that Al brought to the meeting.  Extensive photos were taken and Al provided more documentation than any collector could ever ask for.

Fred will utilize these photos and documents to enhance his upcoming book on P.O. Ackley.  EMDEKO was until now a short episode in the P.O. Ackley history that lacked much for details.  With Al’s input this will likely turn out to be an interesting chapter in the history of America’s most famous gunsmith.  Watch for more details as the book approaches completion some time in 2011.

This cartridge appeared in an Ackley Sales brochure from somewhere between 1951 and 1955.  In that brochure Ackley refers to this as a new cartridge, we just can’t be sure what ‘new’ meant to Ackley.

When 219 Zipper brass was changed by the manufacturer following World War II Ackley decided that his Improved Zipper was essentially obsolete.  As a result he designed the 22/30-30 AI,  this cartridge utilizes a full length 30-30 case necked to 22 with a 40 degree shoulder.  Ackley reports velocities approaching those of the 220 Swift.[1] The advantage to this cartridge is that it can be used in actions designed for 30-30, specifically single shots, or the Savage 99 would be good choices as this cartridge will produce pressures not recommended for the Winchester 94.

Ackley recommended this case, “because of it’s ease of forming brass from 30-30 or 32 Special cases, as compared to similar cartridges such as the improved zipper, 219 Wasp and others.”[2]

Shawn Carlock named the 338 Edge. by his account, in 2001. He candidly states that he may not have been the first to neck the 300 Remington Ultra Mag. up to 338.   Either way, his name is the one that stuck.

Anytime there is a new configuration of brass available every gunsmith and reloader in the country starts necking it up and down.  This was true of the RUM case as it is with all new comers.

Carlock tells that when he set out to design a purposed long range 338 cartridge he wanted to use a standard long action with little or not modifications.  The use of the Ultra Mag case gave him a cartridge big enough to supply fuel for the long heavy bullets he intended for the cartridge.  Best of all it used a standard magnum bolt face for alterations could be held to a minimum on his Remington 700 action.

The 338 Edge name came into being in 2001 when Carlock heard that Remington was about to introduce a 338 RUM for 2002.  He named his cartridge in order to avoid any possible confusion about the two cartridges.  His work on the cartridge dates back at bit further though as the first article on one of his guns appeared in “The Accurate Rifle” in the October 2000 issue.

Longer barrels and heavy bullets proved to be the ground where the 338 Edge excels.  About the only change to the chambering over time has been to make the throat longer to accommodate the long heavy bullets without loosing case capacity.

Unlike some wildcatters Mr. Carlock was satisfied with less than maximum velocity with his “standard” load.  Why?  Simple, he found a load using one of Hodgdon’s Extreme powders he could get a surprisingly consistent load at about 2800 fps and a 300 grain Sierra Match King®.  He states that in temperatures ranging from 20-90 degrees F velocity varied less than 30 feet per second.

The 338 Edge is a good compromise.  It allows efficient use of heavy bullets with high B.C. for long range shooting.  Recoil from the Edge without a heavy rifle and muzzle brake can be stout.  There are bigger cartridges that burn even more powder.  For the long range shooter it just does not make sense to add more recoil to the equation than is necessary to get the desired results, thus the compromise.
